FREECAP® is a line of specifically engineered packers that swell upon contact with wellbore fluids. A variety of elastomers will expand in water-based fluids or oil-based fluids. FREECAP are highly reliable, have no moving parts, and require no inflation or manipulation to seal, removing the inherent risks of mechanical tools.
FREECAP I
FREECAP I packers are made by bonding swellable elastomer to oilfield tubulars in standard sizes of 3 to 20 ft lengths on 10 to 30 ft casing or tubing joints. Metal end rings increase differential pressure rating by reducing extrusion gap. Custom sizes and compounds are available.
Smart FREECAP
The Smart FREECAP packer uses the basics of a FREECAP I packer but is manufactured to allow running control lines through the elastomer.
FREECAP II
FREECAP II packers are designed to slide over the maximum API casing OD tolerance. End ring seals seal the annulus between the packer ID and casing OD. Available in 1 and 3 ft lengths, they are easy to install without specialized personnel.
FREECAP Geothermal
TAM's FREECAP GT™, designed for Geothermal and SAGD applications, comes in two configurations: the GFR, built integral to the casing, and the FFR, which incorporates a fusible link assembly allowing pipe movement relative to the packer.
FREECAP III
FREECAP III packers are slide-on packers that allow on-site placement on blank pipe or at the end of screen sections. The elastomer slides directly onto the casing, secured by two-part end rings. Set screws anchor the end rings to the base pipe, backing up the swellable elastomer under differential load.
Swellable Elastomer Varieties
TAM will custom-wrap a client’s premium pipe in a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility using the ideal elastomer for the specific application. The FastSwell system allows any of TAM’s oil or water swellable elastomers to be used in all environments while reducing production delays.
FREECAP IV
The FREECAP IV is a low-pressure, slide-on packer allowing on-site placement on blank pipe or screen sections. Available in 1 ft, 3 ft, and 5 ft seal lengths (custom lengths possible), the packer slides over max API casing OD tolerances. Metal end rings bond to the swellable elastomer and are anchored to the base pipe with set screws.
